For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
Luke 2:11-14
Unfortunately, during this CHRISTmas season, many will not have peace. There will be some depressed and there will be some stressed. Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27. However, the holiday season that we celebrate the birth of our Savior is a difficult and troubling time for many for various reasons – loss of loved ones, financial difficulty, etc. It seems that whatever your troubles, they are magnified during the CHRISTmas holiday season. It has also been shown that domestic violence increases during the CHRISTmas season. The financial demands and pressures of this season lead to discord in many homes, including CHRISTian homes.
When we keep Christ in CHRISTmas, we allow ourselves to abide in the peace that Christ has given us. When we entangle ourselves with the commercialization of CHRISTmas, we find ourselves struggling and fretting with situations that have nothing to do with celebrating Christ’s birth. For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. Romans 14:17 Paraphrased, it is not about things. If there is no money for gifts, we still have the gift of eternal life through Christ Jesus. (….but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23) If you have lost loved ones, recall the things about them that cause you to smile. Do not allow their memory to be a source of pain, but rejoice because you have the memories and those can never be taken from you. (The memory of the just is blessed… Proverbs 10:7)
And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7
