God Of The Seasons

“Then God said, “Let lights appear in the sky to separate the day from the night. Let them be signs to mark the seasons, days, and years.”
Genesis 1:14

Friday was the first day of Spring and, like most people, I was happy to see Spring officially make its entrance. I was looking out the window observing the subtle changes that nature was beginning to make to adjust to this new season. I observed green buds on trees that would eventually bring forth bright green leaves. I even saw a few bright red and orange blooms on bushes. Although the weather was cool and the sky was overcast, I knew that all of that would soon change and sunny days would replace the overcast and warmth would replace the cool weather. Nature is literally transforming itself and embracing its new season.

My thoughts then wandered to God’s people. How do we transform and embrace the current season of our lives. Although March 20th was the first day of Spring in the U.S., different regions have different climates, so depending on where you live, Spring may be cool, Spring may be hot or Spring may be cold. Likewise, we each may find ourselves in different seasons; or we may be in the same season, but it may not look the same.

Spring is symbolic of the weather turning warmer and plant life growing and blooming – all is well with our world. Summer is when the heat is beating down on us and there may be wildfires springing up; or for some, it could be life on the beach relaxing, living and loving life. Fall is symbolic of recovery. We receive relief from the heat and the wildfires cease. There is a cool breeze. Finally Winter, the season where life seems cold and everything is stagnant.

We must remember that God created the seasons. “He changes the times and the seasons.” Daniel 2:21. Therefore, whatever the season, there is no fear when you believe in, trust in, and rely on the Lord. When we place our hope and confidence in the Lord, we can adjust, transform and produce in any season. Although in the natural, the season is Spring, if you are not in your spiritual Spring season, do not despair. Trust God. Not only is He able, He will sustain you in every season. “I give waters in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert, to give drink to my people, my chosen.Isaiah 43:20. He is God of every Season!

But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.
Jeremiah 17:7-8

This entry was a blessing and very well written. I could see the beautiful plants you spoke of and could almost feel the winter you mentioned. Most of this entry has allowed me to begin thinking of seasonal changes within my own life and to be sensitive to the voice God for direction so that I may always bear fruit in season and out. May the Lord continue to use you my sister!
