A Prayer for Mothers

I wrote this piece last year because my heart was burdened for mothers who were losing their sons to violence. I am reblogging it now for the same reason. My prayer is that those who believe in the power of prayer would fervently cry out to God to heal our land of the rampant violence and prevalent hatred. The Word of God is still true, “If my people who are called by my name, would humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from Heaven, and will forgive their sins, and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14 It’s Prayer Time!

On this Mother’s Day, my heart cries for the mothers who have lost their children to death; death by violence, sickness and disease. I am especially grieved for those mothers whose sons and daughters are being slaughtered in the street like dogs from gun violence. Mothers are wailing for the lives of their children.

Matthew 2:18 states, “In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they were not.” Just as these mothers were weeping for their babies that were killed after Herod issued a decree that all the children from two years old and under be put to death (Matthew 2:16), mothers are weeping for their sons and daughters being put to death.
